This is not quite a “last minute” reminder to our clients, but it’s close. The deadlines for completion of this year’s ACA reporting responsibilities are drawing nigh. The important dates are:
-
February 28, 2017 – The date by which “Applicable Large Employers” (ALEs) who are filing paper copies of their employees’ Forms 1095-C must file those copies with the Internal Revenue Service. Transmittal Form 1094-C is used to file copies of Forms 1095-C with the IRS.
-
March 2, 2017 – The date by which Forms 1095-C must be furnished to employees who were full-time (30 hours per week or more) at any time during 2016. (A few ALEs will use Forms 1095-B instead of, or in addition to, 1095-C.) This date was extended by 30 days from January 31, 2017, while the February 28 IRS filing date was not extended, which explains why the due date for filing paper forms is a few days prior to the date the forms must be furnished to employees.
-
March 31, 2017 – The date by which electronic filers must file their employees’ Forms 1095-C with the IRS.
-
Extensions of the IRS filing dates are available but must be applied for using IRS Form 8809.
